What will TrisKit be when she grows up? Well, I really hope she wants to be a reiner because that's what my plans are! Here is a description of reining from Wikipedia.com Reining is a western riding competition for horses where the riders guide the horses through a precise pattern of circles, spins, and stops. All work is done at the lope (a slow, relaxed version of the horse gait more acommonly known worldwide as the canter) and gallop; the fastest of the horse gaits. Reining is often described as a Western form of dressage riding, as it requires the horse to be responsive and in tune with its rider, whose aids should not be easily seen, and judges the horse on its ability to perform a set pattern of movements.
Above pictures are of horses performing the sliding stop maneuver in the reining pattern.
Here are a few videos... The first one is of reining champion Andrea Fappani demonstrating reining maneuvers. He is one of the best reining trainers out there!! The rest are of Clinton Anderson and his great way with horses! I'm learning his methods and they really do work!! He is also a great reiner!! I really hope to be able to work with horses like these two trainers!!
